Create A Post.

 

To create a post in WordPress (WP)  
    A post in WP is a time or category filed item. They will display with the top few lines of the post and you click on the title and go to the complete post.  We will describe what a page is in another lesson.
 

  • Log in to WP. If you don’t see a login link or button go to http://mywebsite.com/wp-admin
  • When you log in you will go to the Dashboard. This page has an overview of you blog and helpful information on the WP program and development.
  • On the top Left of the page you will see a menu.  
    • osts
    • Media
    • Links
    • Pages
    • Comments
  • Second box on the left side will have menu
    • Appearance
    • Plugins
    • Users
    • Tools
    • Settings
  • Third Section on the left side
    • These are third part apps like
  • Gallery
  • WP Classifieds
  • Directory    
  • Etc.
  • Click on the posts menu item. Under that menu will be.  Also the right hand side of the screen will list all of the posts that are on your site currently.  This list will have both published and unpublished posts.
    • Edit
    • Add New
    • Post Tags
    • Categories
  • To create a new post click on Add New.
  • On the right side of the page you will see an text input area.
    • The top box is the title,
    • The second box under the formatting tool bar is the content body.
    • Input your content.  
  • Warning if you paste directy from MS Word you will have issues.  
  • To paste from word in your Blog first locate the icon on your formatting menu.  
  • The first is for a regular paste function
  • The second with the T is for text copy and paste.
  • The third is for MS Word.
    • To use any of these icons click on the icon.
    • Paste your content into the space provided and then it insert.  The plug in will then bring you back to your edit screen and your content with its formatting will be in the content space.
  • Next to the upper right hand box  “publish”
    •  At the top of that box you will see two buttons.  Save Draft and Previews.
    • Under the buttons you will see Status: click on edit and you will see a drop down menu that will say Draft, published.
    •  Below that is Visibility: Click the edit button and you will have a choice.
  • Public
  • Password Protected (Click this button and you will have to put in a password of your choosing. This will make the public that come to the site put in a password to read your posts.)
  • Private
    • Then you will see Publish: This give you the option to publish Immediately or at a time of your choosing.
    • Below that is the publish button.  (You must press this button to have your post published.)
  • The next box is Post Tags.  
    • The internet categorizes post in two ways
  • Categories for the local blog
  • Tags for the Internet at large.
    • Put in all the unique words that are in your post.
    • Then pick a category.
    • Continue to scroll down to Discussions.
  • Click allow comments if you want comment.
  • Click pingback and trackbacks.  This allow visitor to link to your story on their blog.
    • Lastly you are at the SEO part of the post.
  • Fill in the title of the post this is what will show up in Google when you search.  Keep it to 50 Characters.
  • Fill in Discription: This is the discription that show up under your title on Google. So make it a good call to action.  Get them to click on it.
  • Fill in Keywords.  These words are going to be the search terms people will use to find your post.
    • Click on Publish and you are live.
